Enduring-Coll

Enduring Spirit grew from my lifelong observation of Black women and the enormous role they have played in families, communities, and in my own life. These women are not presented simply as symbols of struggle. They are individuals. They can be proud, guarded, humorous, defiant, beautiful, weary, angry, tender, or completely comfortable being who they are. The works come from personal experience, observation, music, history, and contemporary life. What connects them is my interest in the person behind the image and in what a face, gesture, or attitude can reveal without explanation.
