Three years ago, my daughter, her Gambian husband and I embarked on an ambitious project to construct a three-story building, a venture that would serve both as a home for them, a business hub and a live/work studio for me. We pooled our resources to bring this dream to fruition. The layout of the building was meticulously planned to accommodate our various needs and aspirations:
Top Floor: A cozy studio that would allow me to create a new body of work on Gambian life and culture.
Second Floor: Comfortable living quarters designed to be rented out or to foster a family life for themselves and their children, where they could create lasting memories together.
Main Floor: A versatile business space, strategically positioned to attract customers and facilitate entrepreneurial endeavors.
This thoughtful arrangement not only reflects their personal and professional aspirations but also symbolizes their commitment to building a life together in a vibrant community.
